Blue Spot Band Members: Don
Gladstone
Bassist Don Gladstone moved to the triangle in '91 and just stepped right in and began working immediately. He has been most visible with the North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra, one of the hottest things ever in North Carolina, but is also seen and heard at Sullivan's in Raleigh, NC. I think he is everyone's first call bass player. Before leaving New York in 1991, Don had played in some pretty select company. Ok, here's just a few of his past stage mates: ( yes the ) Joe Williams, Joe Morello, Woody Herman, Mel Lewis, Lee Konitz, Deodato, and Dakoya Staton. Typically, one of Don's favorites was a cat I never heard. The ones that hit us the hardest aren't always the most famous. Frank O'Brian is a performing singer - pianist in the New York area. Don said at least a couple of times a night Frank would bring tears to his eyes. Just another soulful musician we haven't heard of - not yet. Anyway, we are very lucky to have Gladstone in the area, I am lucky to get to play with him, and we're all glad he played on this CD with us. |
